This week in Teen Living...

Week 1 
Day 1- Introduce yourself through a written essay. Three paragraphs in length describe who you are, what makes you tick and what is unique about you.
Discuss and learn the Latin names of the skeletal system. 
Receive notes on the skeletal system. 
Quiz on the Skeletal system
Notebook Journal check , Red or Black shirt day.


Week 2

Muscular system labeling where the muscles are located and its proper name. 
Muscular system notes
Review Skeletal and Muscular systems for test. 
Test on Skeletal and Muscular systems
Notebook Journal check - Red or black shirt day

Week 3
Monday through Thursday we will work on the physiology of how the muscles and bones work together with an iPad project. 
Using iMovie the students will video and action of their choice (sit-ups) and edit the video to include the Latin names of the bones and muscles used to accomplish that action. 
Presentation of the final project will be after the Notebook Journal check

Week 4
Alcohol and Dysfunctional Family Unit. Discussion of the roles of the children in the home of an alcoholic and where to seek help. 
Corporal Hilbish will discuss Alcohol misuse , abuse, and addiction and the consequences. Also the discussion of prescription drugs and illegal drugs and their consequences.

Week 5

Internet Safety. Students will look up online articles on online safety. Which were newly learned and which do you currently follow. 
Social media safety. Boundaries and breaking points for teens. Identity theft. 
Do your parents have rules or parental locks, passwords, location apps. 

Week 6
Public Health  Indoor and Outdoor Safety measures. Household safety. 
Outdoor safety: bikes, walking on side of road...etc
Community Health services and systems in place for air quality, protecting land and water safety measures. 

Week 7
Monday through Friday: We will continue our First Aid unit 
learning about strokes, diabetes, seizures, allergic reactions (epi-pens)


Week 8
First Aid unit continued: Shock, fainting, heart attacks, broken bones, types of bandages, snake bites, CPR and how to use an AED. The students will be tested on 100 compressions in one minute!

Week 9
Monday: The students will read from the textbook about Safety and preventing injuries. The student will answer questions from the textbook to get them familiar with terminology and be prepared for activity in class. 

Tuesday
: The student will participate in an activity related to first aid and injuries.


Wednesday:sport injuries and prevention.  

Thursday: The student will learn about fires and safety routes for family, school, community.

Friday: The student will learn about safety from others, themselves, internet safety, sibling safety/babysitting safety. 

Week 10
Monday:The students will read a Current Health Magazine and write a brief report on two articles they chose to read. Why this article; What drew you to this Article- What was its appeal; What was the main focus of this Article; What was new to you in this Article; What aspects (name two) of health did this Article cover and discuss.

Tuesday
:Write an article about something you can give to your age community that you would want to be known for or recognized as being regarding a healthy lifestyle.

Wednesday:Interview one of your classmates and write a short article displaying the person as a positive role model or highlighted healthy individual.

Thursday: Interview an adult and write the next TV highlight for the Health Spot light in the news. Be prepared to present it in class!

Friday: Solid Red or Black shirt for spirit day! or JF/FMS shirt for School Spirit! Presentations of interview.

Glencoe Health 2015- Chapter 1 Understanding Health and Wellness
Lesson 1 Your Total Health- Students work with partner read aloud and do questions 1-7; one partner does #6 the other #7.

Lesson 1 Your Total Health- create outline to include vocab,  Main ideas, and any bullet points.

Lesson 2 What affects your Health- Work alone and read and complete Questions 1-5, vocab, main ideas

Thursday Quiz Day: Chapter 1 Lessons 1-2 Quiz vocab & questions

Friday Notebook Check Day, Red/Black Day-
     Putting into practice with participation of social, emotional,      
     mental, spiritual and physical health Wellness

Week 12

Glencoe Health 2015- Chapter 1 Understanding Health and Wellness

Lesson 3- Health Risks and Your Behaviors- work with a partner completing questions 1-5, vocabulary, main ideas

Lesson 4- Promoting Health and Wellness- Work on your own by reading Lesson 4 and completing questions 1-5; On ? #3- list and explain

Review Chapter 1 Lessons 1-4 by creating a 16 question quiz taking four questions from each section; after creating quiz exchange and take the quiz given. 

Thursday Test Day- Chapter 1 Lessons 1-4 Test

Week 13

Glencoe Health 2015- Chapter 2- Taking Charge of Your Health

Lesson 1- Building Health Skills Work with a partner reading lesson 1 and completing questions 1-5, vocab, main ideas, bullet points

Lesson 2- Making Responsible Decisions and Setting Goals working alone read lesson 2 and complete questions 1-5

Review Lessons 1 & 2- with a partner go over the information in lessons 1 & 2.

Thursday Quiz day. Lessons 1-2 Quiz

Friday Notebook Check Day Red/Black shirt Day.

Week 14

Glencoe Health 2015- Chapter 2 Understanding Health and Wellness


Lesson 3- Being a Health Literate Consumer- Work with a partner reading and completing questions 1-5, vocab, main idea, bullet points. 

Lesson 4 -Managing Consumer Problems- Teacher discussion. student completes questions 1-5, vocab, main idea, and any bullet points

Review Chapter 2 Lessons 1-4. Teacher directed review. Collaborative class quiz as review.  

Thursday Chapter 2 Lessons 1-4 Test

Friday Notebook Check Day-Red/Black day. Questions, notes, journals

Week 15

Vaping Juling E-cig Research Project/Presentation- Test Grade
Students work with one other person creating a Research paper with the following:
Introduction addressing the four main points to be researched
Four paragraphs, six sentences each presenting four main points addressed, and
Conclusion wrapping up the research
3 works cited- Urls, websites, articles
PowerPoint/ Google slides presentation
